Villages and Places : Loch Hourn
Surely one of the world's most scenic places - this is a hidden jewel.

Looking through the pine trees and gorse to Loch Hourn
Loch Hourn most likely comes from the Gaelic meaning loch of hell (Loch Iuthairne), but as long as you are not in a small boat in the middle of the loch in winter in a gale of wind, its unlikely you would ever see why this most beautiful of places earned its name. Interestingly though Loch Hourn's neighbour to the south is Loch Nevis which in the Gaelic could be Loch Nimheis translated Loch of Heaven. Sadly many souls have been lost in Loch Hourn's wintry cauldren sea.

On the left coming from Glenelg to Arnisdale with the loch on the right you skirt along the munro Beinn Sgritheall (Scree Hill) which dominates the area with a high point at 974m 3196ft.
