Villages and Places : Corran

Past the hamlet of Cambusbane sits the community of Corran. Here the way of life moves slowly, people leave doors unlocked and deer wander unhindered through the village.

A visitor comes calling in Corran Village

As you come into the village there is a wee car park on the right and if you are visiting, then its maybe best to park the car here and then proceed over the bridge on foot. At the end of the street is the famous Tea Hut where you can have a welcome cuppa and a chat and pick up some hints on the area before continuing your journey.

Leaving the village is a small track that runs up Glen Arnisdale into the hills and eventually to the dam and loch. A good walk for the adventurous type, but remember to tekll someone where you are going and when you will be back.

Around a hundred years ago Loch Hourn was packed with small boats working the herrings. It was said that at the height of the season, you could walk round Arnisdale Bay here stepping from boat to boat without having to touch the ground. These fish was processed here (packed and salted) before being dispatched to the more populated parts of the country.
