WHERE ON EARTH ARE WE AND HOW DO YOU GET HERE?

Marquee, The Avenue, Glenelg, By Kyle, IV40 8JY
NG817197

Low Carbon Transport is Cool. Bus and Train are good but not always the most accessible here in the remote areas so if you are arriving by car, think about sharing. For more info www.travelinescotland.com/ or 0871 200 22 33

BUS

Scottish Citylinking from across Scotland. www.citylink.co.uk/index.php

Nearest stop is Shiel Bridge on the route between Fort William and Kyle of Lochalsh. From Shiel Bridge the local bus service MacRae Kintail has a week day service to Glenelg check 01599 511381 – I’m sure that if enough folk arrive this way and let them know, they’ll put on a special service - or you can call a taxi.

TRAIN

First Scotrail from across Scotland. www.scotrail.co.uk/

Nearest stop is Kyle of Lochalsh via Inverness. From Kyle you can take the bus see above or hire a taxi, see below.

AUTOMOBILE

Check out the options for car sharing www.liftshare.com/uk/
We met a lovely bunch of people getting to the Big Tent Festival this way.

Driving over the second highest mountain pass in Britain, Mam Ratagan from the main land:

On the A87 look for Shiel Bridge and take the turning marked Glenelg onto the Old Military Road which takes you over the Mam. Be prepared for the views as you wind your way up the hill, Loch Duich below you and the Five Sisters of Kintail across the loch.

Over the summit ridge and starting on your decent into Glen More you can see down to Glenelg Bay and across the Sound of Sleat to the Isle of Sky. 8 Miles further on this single track road you'll come to a Y junction at the Smiddy, right take s you to the ferry to Skye and left takes you down the avenue to the Drams in the Field site, welcome to a good time.

Driving across the sea from the Isle of Sky, via the Glenachulish Ferry:

On the A87 look for Broadford and take the turning marked Kylerhea onto the Old Drovers Road which takes you down Glen Arroch to the ferry terminal.  Be prepared for the views as you wind you way along the 9 miles single track road down the glen, looking across the Sound of Sleat to Bernera Beach and Glenelg Bay.

Enjoy the 6 car turn table ferry crossing at the point where 600 years ago the drover's used to swim their cattle across at the Kyle Rhea narrows on route to market in the mainland. Once you disembark on the Glenelg side follow the road ahead until you get to the Smiddy junction, left takes you out the glen and over the hill to civilization, right takes you down the avenue to the Drams in the Field site, welcome to a good time.

PARKING

Look out for the designated parking area’s, you will be directed depending on if you are camping or not. Disabled parking provided.

BOAT

There is a recently refurbished jetty in Glenelg at Quarry. There are moorings though unlikely to be any free, not sure if there are any for guests. We have had festival goers anchor up in Glenelg Bay drawn ashore by the mesmerising music.
