FREE SATURDAY DAYTIME DELIGHTS

Free, free, free music, workshops and entertainment thanks to funding from the Highland Council. If it works out and you like it we’ll do this again next year, though we may have to charge something for it if we don’t get funding. Lochalsh Junior Pipe Band

The Pipe Band will lead us from breakfast in the Hall to the Field, ringing in the beginning of the delights of the day.

Skye & Lochalsh Orchestra

Also celebrating their 10th Anniversary we are looking forward to hearing all those instruments playing their favourite tunes ringing through the glen.

Ness River Rhythm Kings

Legends on the Inverness scene, jazzing up the afternoon with their expert delivery of tunes from the 1920’s/30’s

The Duplets & Band

This Scottish harp and song duo team up with fiddle and drums to play from their first album launched in 2008. Playing old and new music with imagination, referencing contemporary sounds.

The Murdo Cameron Trio

Home grown talent ‘Yogi’ Cameron from Glenelg and friends fresh from Plockton’s music school play out the afternoon with dancing if we all want to. Take your partners please for an Orcadian Strip the Willow!

WORKSHOPS

Bring your instruments, dancing shoes and shinty sticks!
Brush up on techniques and tunes.
All welcome and we’ll see what comes out in the mix.

Fiddle

With Sarah Naylor, an award winning musician in her own right currently teaching across the country. Sarah’s back taking the fiddle workshop for the second year, but she’s been coming to drams since the beginning. The Glenelg Fiddle Club will be pleased.

Accordion

With Murdo Cameron, just graduated from Plockton and about to start at Sabhal Mor Ostaig. Murdo has been extensively involved in the feisean movement including this years Skye & Lochalsh Ceilidh Trail and won at the Mod last year with his box. Wonder what secrets he might share on his Alessandrini?

Guitar

With Clive Pearson, who in a previous life worked magic on stage before moving to Glenelg and getting involved in communities and things.

Song Writing

With Linda McRae, we hope our special guest will be able to share some of her knowledge gained over years of experience and more recently studying in Nashville with Grammy winning songwriter Jon Vezner.

Dance

With Lorryne McLucas of Skyedance. Following on from the summer school fusion of Scottish Traditional Dance and Modern styles, what definition defying moves might you go away with, time to show up and see.

Shinty

With Rab MacAskil, a bilingual intro to shinty skills in Gaelic and English.

 

FESTIVAL FOOTBALL

Teeming with teams it looks like we may have to play a game or two on the Friday night, before playing off the rest from noon on the other half of the football field. Who’ll win the inaugural festival football trophy?

Teams registered so far include: Glenelg, Chillwind, Trac, Sabhal Mor Ostaig, The Golfers, Park Glasgow, anyone else interested email festival@dramsinthefield.com

Entry by donation with funds going to the Homeless World Cup.
