with luck will be there on fiddle. The sound is Americana, Folk,
Indie, the influences are Be Good Tanyas, Jackson Browne, Iron and
Wine, Boo Hewerdine and we are not the next big thing.

Cast Ewe Band.
Cast Ewe Band is a local band with Iain “Ching
Chong” Cameron from Glenelg on accordion, Angus “Broken
Ankle Kilmore Bull” Nicolson from Sleat on Fred Morrison Pipes,
Murdo “Yogi” Cameron from Glenelg on Alesandrini accordion
& whistles.
Joining them for Drams this year are Hugh “Slucky”
MacCallum from Inverlochy on drums and Sean “Sherminater”
Gray from Ayr on guitar.
The Cast Ewes play traditional music old and new
and some rip roaring reels.
Walking home from a gig Kilmore Bull says “What’s
that in the middle of the road, is it a sheep?” Ching chong
clarifies “No it’s a cast ewe!” Sheep have a different
look at 4am on Raasay.
Esther O’Conner.
www.estheroconnor.com
Everyone agrees that Esther O'Connor is a blazing
new talent: a thoughtful, optimistic singer-songwriter with a slew
of great tunes and ear-sticking lyrics. It could be genetic - her
father is WET, WET, WET guitarist Graeme Duffin. But don't take
the experts' word for it: you need to listen to Move On, the second
single from The Place Where We Are, released August 6. Or see Esther
at her best, playing live with her five-piece band (which includes
her husband and her little brother).
Esther has shared the stage with everyone from
the Zutons and Air Traffic to a support slot with Steve Forbert
in Edinburgh's Liquid Rooms. Radio can't get enough of her tuneful,
haunting songs: Tom Morton of Radio Scotland describing her single,
Nirvana Man, as "Neil Young meets Beyonce round at Joni Mitchell’s
house".
The Herald, Scotland on Sunday, Scotsman and the Sunday Times have
all interviewed Esther. The Sunday Times noted approvingly that
she is "David Geffen crossed with Stevie Nicks." Journalists
recognize that Esther is a trailblazer, a talented musician who
also runs her own business and releases records on her own terms.
The Gypsy Queens & a Dog Leg.
Gypsy Queens and a Dog Leg are a recently formed
band based in Glasgow but all hail from the West Coast of Scotland.
The band are: Ruairaidh Graham (Inflatable Haggis), Breakish, Isle
of Skye on percussion, Magnus Graham (Injuns), Breakish, Isle of
Skye on guitars, Fiona MacAskill (Catriona Watt Band), Breakish,
Isle of Skye on fiddle and Lauren Tait (Catriona Watt Band) on piano.
The band formed when a bunch of friends wanted
to play tunes together and consequently found them selves creating
a storm when they played the Sound of Rum Music Festival 2007. Their
music has been best described as vibrant, twisted West Coast tunes
that will keep your mind off the housework for a while at least!!

The Porridge Men.
www.myspace.com/porridgemen
The Porridge Men were formed in Edinburgh by a
group of school friends who all shared a love of Scotland's music,
culture and heritage, and who all shared a vision to breathe new
life into the old tunes. They have, however, taken 10 years to become
an overnight success.
They first recorded their forward-looking album
"Planet Porridge" in 1997, with REL Records. The band
really came to prominence, though, when their music was used at
the 2006 Winter Olympics, being chosen by Christopher Dean of all
people as an ideal representation of modern Scotland. Since then,
the band has headlined Tartan Week in New York and also the UEFA
Cup Final celebrations in Glasgow in 2007.
In between times, the individual band members have
performed and toured the world with a variety of different bands,
from Kanye West to Belle &
Sebastian, Smokey Robinson to the Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia
Pipe Band. Indeed, original violinist and founder member Murray
Fergusson met his wife Gabi while touring South America with Belle
& Sebastian, and is now living in Sao Paolo!
Now re-formed, re-energised and playing a lot of
new exciting sets, as well as the Planet Porridge material, the
Porridge Men is a four piece band, who like to draw on a wide range
of musical influences from around the globe, and weave those together
with some fantastic Scots' tunes.
Andrew Horne on drums studied at the RSAMD, and
is now a freelance
musician/producer based in Glasgow. Donald MacLeod, whose family
come from Loch Broom, is Pipe Sergeant for the perennially successful
Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Grade One Pipe Band, and Iain MacPhail
provides accordion, keys and midi-bass for the band.
Emily MacPherson, another RSAMD graduate, has come
into the band and brought a new dynamic to the sound of the Porridge
Men. She debuted as a Porridge (wo)Man on violin in New York this
year, and impressed the audiences there with her range of playing,
from Shetland to Highland tunes.
The band are thrilled to be coming to Glenelg for
this year's "Drams"
festival especially to be playing on the Saturday night.

,and one that is being eagerly awaited by a great number of people. |
